Cashmere

Our cashmere is spun by Cariaggi in Italy. A family-run spinner based in the Apennine mountains since 1958, Cariaggi supplies some of the world's most respected luxury houses.

The fibre is combed from the undercoat of Capra hircus laniger goats raised in Inner Mongolia, where the extreme climate encourages an exceptionally fine fleece. At just 15.5 microns on average, it creates a beautifully soft, lightweight knit.

The yarn is SFA-certified through the Sustainable Fibre Alliance, supporting high standards of animal welfare, environmental stewardship and traceability from fibre to finished yarn.

Superfine Lambswool

Our superfine lambswool and cashmere-lambswool blend yarns are spun by Todd & Duncan in Scotland. Founded in 1867 on the banks of Loch Leven, the mill uses the loch's naturally soft water in its finishing process.

The lambswool is sourced from Australasia and shorn from young sheep at their first clip, when the fleece is at its finest and softest. Warm, lightweight and naturally resilient, it becomes softer with wear.

The wool is RWS-certified through the Responsible Wool Standard, supporting high standards of animal welfare and responsible land management.

Every finishing detail is considered as carefully as the yarn itself. Our buttons are made in Britain, while our 100% cotton labels are sewn with cotton thread and printed using OEKO-TEX® certified inks.

What is the difference between cashmere and wool knitwear?

Cashmere comes from the undercoat of goats, while wool comes from the fleece of sheep. Cashmere is finer, softer and lighter, while lambswool has more structure and natural resilience, helping it hold its shape over time. Miella uses both: Italian-spun cashmere and Scottish-spun superfine lambswool.

What is fully fashioned knitwear?

Fully fashioned knitwear is knitted to shape rather than cut from a larger piece of fabric. Each panel is shaped on the machine before being linked together stitch by stitch. The process takes longer, uses yarn more efficiently and allows for a more precise fit and neater seams.

At Miella, our knitwear is fully fashioned and hand-linked by specialist makers in England.

What makes cashmere high quality?

Two things matter most: fibre length and fineness.

Longer fibres spin into stronger, smoother yarn with fewer loose ends at the surface, making the knit less prone to pilling over time. Finer fibres feel softer against the skin.

Miella's cashmere averages just 15.5 microns and is selected for its long, fine fibres.
